A commitment to helping kids build healthy lifestyles
Through encouraging kids to exercise their way to school, we at Newbury Park Walk and Bike Safely are here to help the community live more active, healthy lives, one pedal (or step) at a time.

Safety tips
No matter how you get to school, make sure to be safe when you do it. Here are some quick tips to make sure you stay safe:
Stay alert
No earphones or headphones; make sure you can hear and see approaching traffic.
Follow all traffic laws
Bikes must obey the same rules as cars when on the road; ride in the same direction as traffic.
Plan and practice beforehand
Choose a safe route with sidewalks and low traffic, then practice it ahead of time.
Move predictably
Stay in a straight line, don’t dash across the street. Avoid sudden stops or swerves.
Use the buddy system
Whenever possible, bike or walk to school with a friend or parent to stay safe.
Wear a helmet
When biking, the most important way to stay safe is wearing a fastened helmet.
